Generally , the act of measurement is a comparison of the standard of length or the distance to be reproduced and an unknown feature. In dimensional metrology there are two basic types of measurement: linear , measurement of translation (motion in one direction) among other things , and angular, measurement of the motion of rotation. To create a measurement , you must compare the feature to the standard of length .
