In order to ensure the accuracy for measurements, you should
frequently use repeated measurements. Though they are an effective
way for checking instruments, simple repetition of the same
reading is a partial of precision and not a test of accuracy at
all. The repeated measurements will only check the accuracy on the
measurement when the ture value of the test part is already
known.
Under the certain conditions, you can repeat incorrect
measurements very reliably. Thus you should use gage blocks or
master cylinders to take repeatability tests with standards of the
already known value.
Repeatability, Accuracy and Precision
First of all, the repeatability of one measurement on one part
with the same instrument and observer does not measure the
accuracy of the instrument, the precision of the instrument,
however, it does measure the combined precision of the observer
and instrument for one portion of the entire range. What is more
important is that, it can measure the accuracy for the combined
observer and instrument for one portion of the entire range if the
ture value for the test part is known.
