Reading a Metric Micrometer

A metric micrometer has the same parts and works just like an inch system micrometer. One complete revolution of the thimble moves the spindle exactly 0.500 millimeters . Two complete revolutions of the thimble moves the spindle exactly 1 millimeters from 1 to 25 millimeters. Each millimeters is subdivided in half. Two revolutions of the thimble moves the spindle a distance of 1 millimeter.
The beveled edge of the thimble is graduated in 50 divisions . Every fifth line is numbered from 0 to 50. A complete revolution of the thimble moves the spindle 0.5mm. Each division on the thimble is equal to 1/50 of 0.5mm or 0.01mm.
Reading a metric micrometer is similar to the inch type. Add the reading in millimeters you see on the sleeve to the reading in hundredths of a millimeter in the thimble.
