The technological advancements of the
dial indicator
and digital electronics previously discussed ( see caliper
advancement) have also been separately incorporated into the
micrometer. The dial comparator micrometer is equipped with an indicator
that takes the place of the vernier scale typically found on the
sleeve and thimble. The indicator facilitates measurement reading
speed and accuracy.
The digital micrometer , which has an electronically generated
digital display , is now without a line graduated measurement
scale. The digital display is easy to read and may be reset to
zero from any measuring position. Also, the display can be set to
read in either inches or millimeters . Finally , due to the
electronic nature of the digital micrometer, data collection and
statistical evaluation via computer are possible.
